Experience the best of North Vietnam in luxury with an insider’s tour of Hanoi. Board an overnight train and pass lush rice paddies as you journey to the fascinating hill tribe villages of the Sapa region. End your journey with an overnight cruise to the stunning limestone isles of Halong Bay.

Take an insider’s tour of Hanoi. Pay a visit to Ho Chi Minh’s mausoleum and see one of Vietnam’s most iconic temples, The One Pillar Pagoda. Stroll around Vietnam’s first university, in the evening board an overnight train to Lao Cai. Take a walk amongst the green hills and valleys of the Sapa area to a variety of hill tribe villages.

Drive to a market where Flower Hmong, Black Dao, Phu La, Tay and Nung hill tribe groups all gather to trade. Walk to a hill tribe village where you’ll witness their traditions and lifestyle. Board a traditional wooden junk for an overnight journey into the bay. Weigh anchor and enjoy dinner on board before settling down for the night. Transfer back to Hanoi where your guide and driver will help you to explore Hanoi and its many sights, including seeing a performance of the Vietnamese art form of water-puppetry.

Day 1: Hanoi (D)

Upon arrival our guide will meet you and transfer you to your hotel by private car.
Overnight in Hanoi
 
Day 2: Hanoi – Lao Cai (B)
 
Take an insider’s tour of the capital. Pay a visit to the father of modern Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh’s, mausoleum and his modest nearby house built on stilts. Next see one of Vietnam’s most iconic temples, The One Pillar Pagoda founded in 1049 by King Ly Thai To in gratitude for receiving a son.

Day 3: Lao Cai - Sapa(B/ L)
 
From the train, transfer to the former hill station of Sapa, home to a number of different hill tribe groups, who you will see going about their day dressed in colorful hand-stitched clothes. Take a walk amongst the green hills and valleys of the area to the local market where different hill tribes meet to buy and sell their wares. You’ll see Red Dao, Tay and Black Hmong people here selling handicrafts, silverware and many other things. Next is a light trek to a variety of hill tribe villages with the stunning Hong Lien Son Mountain Range as your backdrop. After lunch, the rest of your day is free to relax.

Day 4: Sapa – Lao Cai - Hanoi(B)

After breakfast take a drive to a local market (the market changes according to the day). At these markets Flower Hmong, Black Dao, Phu La, Tay and Nung hill tribe groups all gather to trade with one another. A short walk takes us to a hill tribe village where you’ll witness the traditions and lifestyles of the people. In the afternoon return to Lao Cai for the train back to Hanoi.

Day 5: Hanoi – Halong Bay(B/ L/ D)

Arrive early in Hanoi and freshen up at a hotel before your overnight boat trip to Halong Bay. Witness everyday life in Vietnam on your drive to the pier; villagers work in their rice fields and plough them using buffaloes, while others cycle to market with their wares loaded wherever they can fit them

Day 6: Halong Bay - Hanoi( B)

Have a healthy brunch on board as your boat sails past gorgeous scenery and stunning limestone rock formations to Halong City. Upon disembarking your driver will meet you for the flight to Hanoi.

Day 7: Hanoi (B)

The day is at leisure until you transfer to Hanoi Airport for your onward flight.
